Vars Real Estate Completes Sale and Leasing of 8636 Washington Blvd in Culver City

Chris Market in the Culver City Arts District was sold and has changed its name to Element 29. Sung “Chris” Han has operated Chris Market at its current location since 1971 and has been an important part of the local community in East Culver City. Chris Market was originally opened in the 1920s and was one of the first markets/convenience stores to be opened between Downtown LA and the Westside of Los Angeles. Back in the ’20s, the market was more than twice as large and offered a full selection of offerings. As the neighborhood evolved over the years, the space was reduced and the market served the local neighborhood as a convenience store with beer, wine, and other ancillary services.

Jeff Meyer is the new owner and he has changed the name of the market to Element 29. Element 29, which represents the 29th element copper on the periodic table of elements, is a gourmet deli market with fine wine and craft beer. You will quickly notice the handcrafted copper light fixtures in the front window. Some of the planned renovations have already been completed, while other improvements are still coming. The new market still services the needs of the local community but has added some upscale offering to reflect the new demographics of Culver City.
Jon Varsano of Vars Real Estate represented the buyer and the seller of the business opportunity, as well as the landlord and tenant in the resulting lease agreement.
